Overcharging your car’s AC unit can leave you with a costly mistake. Follow these simple steps to avoid overcharging and save yourself some money.
Check your battery’s condition
If your car battery is overcharged, there may be irreversible damage done. Symptoms of an overcharged battery can include a decrease in power and starting ability, a weakening of the battery’s casing, and even a fire. To bleed off the overcharged battery, first disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Next, use a wrench to loosen the bolts that secure the Positive Cable Holder to the battery. Finally, remove the Positive Cable Holder. Gently move the cables away from each other until all of the air has been bled off of them. Replace the Positive Cable Holder and bolts and reconnect the negative cable.
Remove any obstructions
There are a few things you can do to bleed off the overcharged car ac system. The first is to remove any obstructions that may be obstructing the flow of air into and out of the system. This could include removing any debris or dust from around the compressor, unplugging any cables and turning off any unnecessary electronics in the vicinity.
If you’re using a pressure relief valve, it’s important to open it before starting the bleeding process. Doing so will allow more air to enter the system and help to reduce pressure in the unit. Once all of the obstructions have been cleared, start the car and let it idle for about 5 minutes. This will allow air to flow freely through the system and reduce pressure inside the compressor.
Note: Bleeding an overcharged car ac system isn’t always necessary, especially if there are no obvious obstructions. In some cases, simply plugging in a new ac unit and letting it run for a few hours may lead to enough relief on its own.
Open the vent on the bottom of your car
Remove the air filter
Locate the bleed screw on the ac unit and unscrew it
Turn the ac off by unplugging the cord from the ac unit
Put your hands over the vent and hold your breath as you slowly turn the bleed screw counterclockwise until the car AC turns off (it should take about 10 minutes)
Now remove your hands from the vent and allow the car to cool down naturally.
Put a bucket underneath the car and turn on the water
1. Park your car on a level surface with the front end facing down.
2. Open the car door wide and place a bucket underneath it.
3. Turn on the water and wait until it starts flowing into the bucket.
4. Close the car door and wait until the water level in the bucket reaches the bottom of the window cutouts.
5. Turn off the water and remove the bucket.
6. Open the car door and check to see if all of the water has been bled off. If not, turn on the water again and repeat steps 3-5 until all of the water is gone.
Wait until the water starts coming out slowly
If you wait until the water is coming out quickly, it may have already gone down the drain and you’ll waste your time. Instead, open the car’s hood and watch the water flow out of the ac unit. If it’s overcharged, the water will be cold and high pressure.
Keep an eye on the bucket to see when it’s full
If your car’s AC unit is overcharged, you may notice that it doesn’t work as well as it used to. The AC system needs a certain amount of energy to function properly, and an overcharged system won’t have enough energy to provide relief in hot weather. To bleed off the excess charge from your AC unit, follow these steps:
1. Place a bucket under the AC unit’s drain hose.
2. Turn on the AC unit until it’s cold and then turn it off.
3. Connect the AC unit’s power cord to a ground outlet.
4. Turn on the water supply to the bucket until it begins to flow steadily.
5. Turn off the power to the AC unit and disconnect the power cord from the ground outlet.
6. Let the bucket fill with water and then turn off the water supply.
7. Disconnect the AC unit’s power cord from the ground outlet.
8. Remove the drain hose from under the AC unit and discard it in a trash can.
9. Clean up any water or debris that has spilled onto your floor or furniture.
Turn off the water and remove the bucket
If your car’s air conditioning is overcharged, it can lead to a dangerous situation in which the car’s electrical system becomes overloaded. In this article, we’ll teach you how to bleed off the overcharged ac system so that you can safely restore power to the car’s electrical systems.
First, turn off the water supply to the AC unit by unplugging the hose from the unit. Next, remove the bucket from under the AC unit and place it on the ground. Turn off the AC unit by pressing the reset button.
Now, use a wrench to unscrew the top of the AC unit. Make sure not to touch any of the metal parts inside of the AC unit as they may be electrically conductive and create a dangerous spark. Once you’ve unscrewed the top of the AC unit, carefully remove it from the car.
Next, disconnect all of the cables from within the AC unit by gently pulling on each one until they come free. Once all of the cables have been disconnected, set aside the AC unit and bucket.
