If you’ve ever had to clean tree sap off of your car window, then you know that it can be a pretty tedious and time-consuming task. Luckily, there are several ways to get sap off your car quickly and easily. In this article, we’ll show you two of the most popular methods: using a cloth and using a vacuum cleaner.
Safety First
When you get sap on your car window, the first thing you should do is clean it off with a cloth or a damp paper towel. If the sap is on a surface that won’t easily rub off (like the window glass), then use a clear household cleaner like windex to quickly and easily remove it. Be sure to wear gloves while cleaning the window, in case any sap gets on your hands.
Materials Needed
-Shower cap
-Bucket or container
-Water
-Windex or rubbing alcohol
-Lysol or similar cleaner
First, take the shower cap and put it over the bucket. Make sure that the opening of the bucket is near the bottom of the shower cap.
Next, pour water into the bucket until it’s about four inches deep.
Put the car in a ventilated area, and turn on the windows all the way. Wait until the car gets really hot, then put the bucket inside and wait for sap to fill up the top of the bucket.
When sap starts flowing out of the car window, carefully pour off as much of it as you can using your hand. Try not to get any on your hands or in your eyes.
Pour a small amount of windex or rubbing alcohol into your hand and use it to clean any sap that got on your hands.
If you can’t get sap off with alcohol or windex, try using lysol or another cleaner. Wipe down any areas where sap has gotten on your car window.
Preparing the Surface
If you have tree sap on your car window, there are a few things you can do to prepare the surface.
1. Remove any large pieces of sap with a clean cloth or paper towel.
2. If the sap is thick, mix water and vinegar together in a spray bottle and mist the area with the mixture. This will break down the sticky surface and help remove the sap.
3. If all of the above methods fail, use a hairdryer set on low to heat up the sap and help it loosen up.
Applying the Sap Solution
If you’ve got sap on your car window and you don’t want to go through the trouble of getting it off, there’s a sap solution for you. All you need is baking soda, water and a bucket. Mix together one cup of baking soda with one gallon of water and pour the solution over the sap on your window. Let the solution sit for about an hour, then use a hose or a bucket to rinse it off.
Wiping Down the Car
If you have a car full of sap, there’s no need to panic. Just follow these simple steps to clean up the mess:
-Wipe down the entire car with a dry cloth. Use a liberal amount of soap if necessary.
-Rinse off the area with clear water.
-Make sure the area is completely dry before applying a protective coating or sealant.
