Losing your car keys can be one of the most frustrating things that can happen. Not only do you lose access to your vehicle, but you may also have to go through the hassle of getting a new key made. Luckily, there are a few simple steps you can take to get your car keys out of ignition in an emergency. Read on to find out how!
Locate the Key
If your car keys are stuck in the ignition, it may be possible to remove them using a few simple techniques. Locate the keyhole on the center console and insert a thin object, such as a screwdriver or knife blade, into the hole until it comes out the other side. Push and pull on the key while wiggling it around until it pops out. If all else fails, you can use a jiggler tool to dislodge the key from the ignition switch.
Remove the Battery
If you need to remove the battery in order to get car keys out of the ignition, there are a few different ways to go about it.
The first is to use a flat head screwdriver or similar tool and pry the battery cover off of your car. Next, use a Mechanics Hammer to hit the battery several times from above so that it pops out. Finally, use a wrench to unscrew the battery from its housing.
Another method is to use a Phillips Head Screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold down the engine cover on most cars. Once those screws are removed, gently pull up on the engine cover until it comes free. Be sure not to lose any of the screws as they will come in handy later.
Finally, if none of these methods work for you, you can always resort to breaking into your car by smashing through the window or stealing another’s key ring!
Release the Key from the Ignition Switch
There are a few ways to release the key from the ignition switch. If your car has a manual transmission, you can usually release the key by turning it to the “off” position and pulling it out. If your car has an automatic transmission, you canusually release the key by pressing down on the shift lever and pulling it out.
If your car doesn’t have a manual or automatic transmission, you’ll need to call a tow truck or have a locksmith remove the key from the ignition switch.
Insert a New Battery
If you have car keys that won’t turn in the ignition, there are a few things you can do to try and get them out.
First, make sure the key is fully inserted into the ignition. Sometimes if the key is loose or if it’s been sitting in a hot car, it can be difficult to get it to turn. If the key won’t turn at all, it may be necessary to remove the battery to get it out. To do this, you’ll need a screwdriver and some patience.
Once the battery is out, slowly ease the key out of the ignition and place it on a flat surface. Make sure not to lose any of the screws that hold it in place! Once everything has been removed, you can take apart the key and fix whatever is wrong with it.
Put the Key Back In Its Place
If you’ve been trying to pry car keys out of the ignition and they just won’t budge, there’s a simple solution. Just put the key back in its place! Here’s how:
1. Rest your hand on the center console, just below the ignition key. Gently push down on the key with your other hand so that it pops out of the ignition.
2. Insert the key back into the ignition, turning it to the “on” position before releasing your hands. The key should now pop out easily when you try to remove it again.
