When your baby is ready to graduate from the safety of your car seat and walk around, it can be a bit of a pain to get them out. Graco makes a variety of car seats, but all of them use the same system for unlatching: a button on the base that you push. Here are four tips for unlatching Graco car seats without struggling: 1. Make sure you have the right tool – A lot of parents forget this, but there’s usually a special tool designed just for unlatching Graco seats. Unlatch the Graco car seat from the base
To unlatch Graco car seat from base –
1. Locate the two “U” shaped release buttons on either side of the car seat. The release buttons are located in close proximity to each other, and one is typically on the left side of the car seat and one is on the right side.
2. Push down on both release buttons at the same time until they pop out of their respective slots.
3. Lift up on the car seat’s shoulder straps to remove it from its base.
Insert the Graco car seat into the base
If you have a Graco car seat that has a base, like the Graco SnugRide 30/32 or 35, there are a few steps you need to follow to unlatch it from the base. If your car seat doesn’t have a base, or if you just want to remove it from your car for convenience, see the instructions below.
1. Make sure your car is in park and your door is closed completely.
2. Remove the infant restraint strap by pulling on both ends simultaneously until it comes free of the buckle (figure A).
3. Lift up on the front of the car seat and wiggle it out from under the child restraint (figure B).
4. Lift up on the back of the car seat and slide it off of the base (figure C).
5. If your car seat has an installation feature like a secure connector system, thread it through one of the openings in the back of the base (figure D) and pull tight to secure. If not, just tuck it away out of sight.
Flip the Graco car seat over so that the child is facing forward
When your child is ready to graduate from a car seat and become a full-fledged passenger, it’s time to flip the Graco car seat over so that the child is facing forward. This maneuver can be tricky at first, but with a little practice you’ll be able to do it in no time!
To flip the Graco car seat over, start by unlatching the shoulder straps. Next, use one hand to remove the base of the car seat from the vehicle’s base. Finally, turn the car seat around so that the child is facing forward and reattach the shoulder straps. Be sure to tighten them all up once you have flipped the car seat over!
Snap the Graco car seat into place
If you have a Graco car seat, it’s important to know how to unlatch it from the base so you can take it with you when you get in your car. There are two ways to unlatch the car seat: using the release button on the side of the car seat, or using the latch on top. Here’s how each works:
1. To use the release button, press it until it clicks into place. Then, pull down on the shoulder strap until it detaches from the base.
2. To use the latch on top, first push down on one of the arms until it clicks into place. Then, lift up on the other arm and hold onto it as you open the clasp.
Replace the base
If your Graco car seat has a base that is difficult to unlatch, there are a few quick and easy steps you can take to get it loose.
1. Open the car door as far as it will go, then use your hands to pull the base of the car seat towards you until it pops off of the hinges or latches.
2. Once the base is free, tuck it out of the way and replace it with a new one.
