4. unbolt and remove the old ignition switch by removing its four bolts.
5. screw in new ignition switch by tightening its bolts to secure it in place. replace wiring harnesses if needed, and reattach everything to socket on cover of switch.

How to Reset a Car Ignition

If your car’s ignition doesn’t seem to be working properly, you can try resetting it. This will typically solve the problem and allow you to start the car. Here’s how: Open the hood of your car and locate the key ignition switch. It will likely be on the left side near the battery. Turn it to “Off” by pushing down on it a couple of times with a screwdriver. Now unbolt the key ignition switch from its mount and remove it. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Move the key ignition switch to “On” by reattaching it to its mount and plugging in the positive battery cable. Now reattach all of the other connectors, making sure that they’re secure. Reconnect the negative battery cable and turn on your car. If everything goes according to plan, your car should start right up now!
