How to Clean Engine Block While in Car

Many people avoid cleaning their engine block out of fear that it will damage the car. However, by following these simple steps you can clean your engine block without any risk of damaging your vehicle.

What You’ll Need

To clean your engine block while in your car, you’ll need a bucket, toothbrush, and some engine cleaner. Pour the engine cleaner into the bucket, and put the toothbrush in the bucket to help dirty particles fall out. Swirl the engine cleaner around until it’s completely mixed in. Drive your car around for a few minutes to help circulate the cleaner throughout the block. Once it’s done cleaning, pour the liquid off and discard it.

How to Clean the Engine Block

Clean the engine block while in your car with a few simple steps. 1) Open the hood and remove the upper radiator hose. 2) Remove the lower radiator hose. 3) Park the car so that the engine is facing down with the block on the ground. 4) Turn on the engine, wait for it to warm up, and then use a wire brush to scrub off all of the dirt and debris from around the engine block. 5) Pour some water into a bucket and add a little detergent. 6) Dip a cloth in the bucket and wring it out. 7) Start scrubbing around all of the ports on the engine block. 8) Once you’ve cleaned everything up, pour some more water into the bucket, add more detergent, and rinse everything off. 9) Turn off the engine and remove the cloths. 10) Close up all of the ports on the engine block and replace both hoses.
