When it comes to repairing your car, there are a few basic tools that you’ll need, including a torque wrench, a socket set, and a ratchet. In this article, we’re going to show you how to pull power steering pump pulleys with the help of a torque wrench.
What is a power steering pump pulley?
A power steering pump pulley is a wheel that is attached to the power steering pump. It helps to convert the mechanical energy of the engine into rotational energy that can be used to power the pump. If this wheel becomes worn or broken, it can cause issues with the operation of the power steering system.
How to remove a power steering pump pulley
Pulling a power steering pump pulley is a common repair on vehicles. It’s usually a relatively easy job, but there are a few things to keep in mind when doing it.
1. Use a puller that’s the right size for the pulley. A pulley that’s too big won’t fit between the shaft and the pulley wheel, and a pulley that’s too small will damage the wheel.
2.Loosen the bolts that hold the pulley onto the shaft first. Then use the puller to remove the pulley from the shaft.
3. Clean and lubricate the new pulley before installing it.
How to install a power steering pump pulley
If you have a 1999-2002 Acura Vigor, your power steering pump pulley is likely located in the engine bay. Follow these easy steps to install it:
1. Park your car on level ground and turn off the engine.
2. Remove the battery cable if you have one.
3. Locate the power steering reservoir under the hood near the firewall. If it’s difficult to find, look for a black box with a metal cover near the front of the car on the driver’s side. Remove the metal cover by Prybar or wrench and then unscrew the reservoir cap.
4. Carefully pull out the old pulley byhand, being careful not to damage it. If it’s noticeably rusted or broken, replace it before proceeding. Install the new pulley in its place taking care not to damage surrounding wires and hoses. Screw down reservoir cap and reconnect battery cable if removed.
