It’s not just parents who struggle with putting car seats back together. Even experienced mechanics sometimes find themselves in a tight spot when it comes to assembling a car seat. If you haven’t put your car seat back together in a while and find yourself stumped, here are a few tips to get you started. These will not only help you put the seat back together, but also help you avoid future problems.
Unbuckle the Latch
Most car seats have a latch on one side that you need to unbuckle in order to fold it up and put it away. Here’s how to do it:
Find the latch on your car seat and unlatch it.
Fold the car seat down so that the latch is on the bottom.
Push down on the top of the car seat until it clicks into place.
Pull Forward the Base
If your car has a base that folds backwards, you can easily pull the base forward and then reattach the seat. First, make sure the seat is anchored to the base using the tether strap. Take off the cover by removing one screw on each side of the cover. Next, take off the four screws that hold the frame together on either end. Finally, unfold and pull forward both sides of the frame until it snaps into place in front of the car’s seat. Reattach the cover and screws.
Push the Armrests Out of the Way
If you’re like most parents, your car seat is a regular stop on your weekly shopping list. But before you head to the checkout line, make sure you know how to put it all back together – especially if you have an Eddie Bauer car seat.
To put an Eddie Bauer car seat back together, follow these simple steps:
1. Open the shoulder belt guide and release the shoulder belt from the buckle. If there is a latch at the front of the car seat, release it as well.
2. Open the side impact protection panel and remove the three screws that hold it in place. Then carefully pull it away from the car seat body.
3. If your car has a head restraint, detach it by pulling up on one clasp and then rotating it counterclockwise until it releases from both clasps. Then remove it by lifting up on one end and pulling outwards.
4. If your car doesn’t have a head restraint, just leave it attached – we’ll add one later.
5. Detach both lower LATCH anchors by pushing down on one end and pulling towards you until they pop free (the plastic tab will come off). You can also use a flathead screwdriver to pry them loose if needed – just be careful not to damage them!
6. Unbutton each side of the child safety seat belt cover and lift it off of the child’s lap (it should Velcro onto his or her waist
Align the Slider
If you’ve ever needed to put an Eddie Bauer car seat back together, chances are you’ve needed to adjust the straps. Here’s how to do it:
1. Open the car seat and lay it on its side. Use a flat object like a book to help you push down on one of the shoulder straps so that it attaches to the bracket at the base of the seat.
2. Push up on the other strap so that it attaches to the same bracket.
3. Rotate each shoulder strap 180 degrees so that they match up with their respective attachment points on the chair frame.
4. Close the car seat up and fasten all of the straps using either traditional carseat buckles or existing loops in your vehicle’s child restraint system (CRS).
Reconnect the Buckles
If you have a Eddie Bauer car seat, putting it back together is a breeze. Here are the steps:
1. Open the buckles on each side of the car seat.
2.Pull up on each strap to tighten it.
3. Reattach the shoulder straps by threading them through the loops on each side of the car seat and pulling tight.
4. Close the buckles by pushing down on them until they click into place.
