If your car is having trouble turning in a tight spot or losing power when you take off, it might be time to take a look at the power steering pulley. This article will show you how to remove the pulley and replace it if necessary.
Tools Needed
-Drill
-3/8″ bit
-Tape measure
-Screwdriver
-Socket set
-Wrench
Instructions:
1. Start by measuring the distance from the top of one bracket to the top of the other. This will be your first measurement.
2. Next, measure the distance between the holes in each bracket. This will be your second measurement.
3. Cut a piece of tapeMeasure that is equal to the distance between the holes in each bracket. Make sure to make a straight cut with your tape measure.
4. Fit one end of the tape measure into one hole on one bracket and fit the other end into the hole on the other bracket. Make sure that the tape measure is held tight against both brackets and that it is parallel to the floor. Using your drill, screwdriver and socket set, drill a 1/8″ hole through both brackets at this location. Be careful not to drill too deep or you may damage your flooring!
5. Take off your screws and replace them with new screws that are slightly longer than those that were originally used ( about 1/4″). Insert these screws into the newly drilled holes and tighten them up using your wrench. Replace your tape measure strip and you’re done!
How To Remove Power Steering Pulley
If you are experiencing problems with your power steering, it may be time to take it to the mechanic for repair. Here is a guide on how to remove the power steering pulley on your own.
First, locate the four bolts that hold the pulley in place. Use a wrench to remove them and set them aside. Next, use a socket wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the pump in place. This will allow you to move the pump forward and away from the pulley.
With the pump removed, you can now unscrew the pulley from its shaft. Be sure to use a rag or piece of paper to protect your hands from oil and dust particles that may be flying off of the pulley. Once unscrewed, gently remove it from the shaft and set it aside.
Now that the pulley is out of the way, you can clean everything up with some soap and water. Make sure to dry everything off before reassembling everything in reverse order.
Tips for Removing a Power Steering Pulley
If you’re like most drivers, you’ve probably replaced your power steering pulley at least once in your car’s lifespan. But if you’re not sure how to do it, here’s a guide to help.
Power steering is essential for driving in tight spaces or on hills, and a pulley malfunction can cause serious problems. Here are four tips for removing a power steering pulley:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable first. This will prevent damage from being done if something falls onto the motor while you’re working on it.
2. Use an impact wrench to break the bolts that hold the pulley on the shaft. Use a piece of wood to protect your hands from the sparks flying from the bolt heads. Make sure the pulley is free before moving it.
3. Pull the pulley off of the shaft. Be careful not to twist or damage it in any way. If necessary, use a ratchet and socket set to remove the bolts that held it on. Be sure to replace them with new bolts when you’re finished.
4. Clean up any spilled oil or grease and replace any parts that were damaged in the process. Your car should now be ready to drive.
