As Summer begins to wane and the weather turns cooler, many of us turn our attention to outside activities such as playing in the park or hitting the pool. But before you can enjoy your time in the water, there are a few things you need to take care of. One of these tasks is repairing or replacing a broken wheel on your Polaris pool cleaner. Here are five tips for doing just that.
What You’ll Need
If your Polaris pool cleaner is having trouble rolling or pulling the debris off the pool surface, it may be time to replace the wheel. Follow these steps to replace a wheel on a Polaris pool cleaner:
1. Locate the screws that hold the wheel in place. There are usually four screws on each side of the cleaner.
2. Remove the screws by using a Phillips screwdriver and a wrench.
3. Carefully remove the wheel from the cleaner. Be sure to keep track of which screw went where so you can reattach it in reverse order when you reinstall it.
4. Replace the wheel with a new one by following the instructions that came with your cleaner. Be sure to torque the screws to 45 degrees (or less) when installing them to avoid loosening them over time.
How to Remove the Wheel
If the wheel is stuck, it may need to be removed with a crowbar. If the wheel can be removed without damaging the cleaner, use a wrench to loosen the bolt and turn it counterclockwise. If necessary, use a crowbar to pry off the bolt. Slide the new wheel on and tighten the bolt using a wrench.
How to Install the Wheel
Polaris Pool Cleaners come with a set of four, aluminum alloy wheels. The first step is to remove the screws that secure the original wheel to the cleaner frame. Once these are removed, simply lift the old wheel off of the cleaner frame and discard it.
To install the new wheel, reverse these steps and screw the new wheel onto the cleaner frame using the screws that were removed in step one. Be sure to tighten these screws until they are snug, but do not over-tighten them as this could damage the frame. Finally, replace the original wheel with the new one and reattach it to the screws on the frame.
Tips for Safe Pool Cleaning
When it comes to pool cleaning, safety is always a top priority. Here are a few tips for replacing a wheel on a Polaris pool cleaner:
1. Start by unplugging the pool cleaner and removing the brushes from the wheel.
2. Inspect the wheel for damage and replace any defective parts.
3. Replace the wheel by screwing it onto the shaft using a wrench.
4. Clip the brushes back onto the wheel, and reattach the belt if necessary.
5. Turn on the pool cleaner and test it out before starting to clean the pool.
