How To Replace Car Ignition On 2001 Saturn Vue

If you are driving a car that is over 10 years old and has a broken or misplaced ignition key, you may be in luck. While many automakers no longer make replacement keys for older models, there are still a few options available. In this article, we will outline the different steps you need to take to replace your car ignition on a 2001 Saturn Vue. From determining if your key is lost or broken, to locating the correct part and installing it, we will guide you through the process. If you find yourself in this situation, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered.

Tools You’ll Need

Required tools for replacing the car ignition on a Saturn Vue include a Phillips screwdriver, a socket wrench, and a ratchet. For installation, you’ll also need an electric drill with a 1/2″ bit and Torx head screws.

Preparation

If you need to replace your car’s ignition on a Saturn Vue, be sure to read our guide first. Here are the basic steps:

1 Open the hood and locate the car’s engine. You’ll see two Phillips screws that hold the cover in place. Remove these screws with a Phillips head screwdriver.
2 Locate the key cylinder and pop it out of its socket using a phillips head screwdriver.
3 Loosen the six fasteners securing the key cylinder bracket to the car body using a Phillips head screwdriver. Once they’ve been loosened, slide the bracket off of the car body.
4 Carefully remove the old ignition switch by gently prying it loose from its mounting points. Save all of your parts!
5 Install the new ignition switch by reversing these steps. Make sure that you position it so that it lines up with both holes in the bracket (marked “A” and “B”). Fasten it in place with two new screws (not included).
6 Replace the key cylinder bracket by re-fastening its six fasteners in reverse order. Be sure to tighten them evenly so that there is noplay in between them. Reinstall the cover andPhillips screws

Removal of the Old Ignition Plaque

If your car has an ignition plaque, it’s time to take it down. This is a relatively easy task that can be done by anyone with a bit of mechanical know-how. The process is as follows:

1) Disconnect the battery cable. This will prevent potential damage to the car if something goes wrong during removal.
2) Remove the screws that hold the Ignition Plaque in place (4 on each side). Be careful not to drop any screws into the engine bay!
3) Gently pull up on the Ignition Plaque and remove it from the car. Don’t try to twist or pull too hard – this could break the plaque or damage the wiring underneath.
4) Clean off any old residue or corrosion from the metal surface of the Ignition Plaque before reinstalling it. Make sure all of the screws are tight and that there is no water exposure around either end of the plaque.

Installation of the New Ignition Plaque

The installation of the new ignition plaque is a straightforward process that takes about an hour. Begin by removing the old plaque by unscrewing the two screws at its base. Once it’s free, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the six smaller screws that secure it in place. Then, use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the old plaque’s adhesive backing. Finally, replace it with the new one and reattach the six screws.

Testing the New Ignition Plaque

If your Saturn Vue has an updated ignition system, you may need to replace the plaque. There are two types of plaques: the primary and secondary. The primary plaque is located on the front of the engine block, and the secondary plaque is located on top of the distributor cap. To replace the ignition plaque, follow these steps:

1. Remove the battery cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect both spark plug cables from the spark plugs.
3. Loosen and remove the four bolts that hold on the engine cover.
4. Lift off the engine cover.
5. Check to see if there is a white or gray plastic platter under the distributor cap (secondary plaque). If so, remove it by unscrewing it counterclockwise with a 10mm wrench (or you can use a socket wrench). If there isn’t a white or gray platter under the distributor cap, continue with step 6 below.
6. If there is no plastic platter under distributor cap, you’ll need to remove some retaining clips (two per side) with a 7mm wrench or socket wrench before removing distributor cap – use caution not to strip threads! Once distributor cap has been removed, using either a
