When your baby starts crawling and cruising around the house, it’s time to get a car seat. And while Graco is a popular brand, there are plenty of other options out there. So, how do you take Graco car seat out of base? In this blog post, we will walk you through the process step-by-step. From removing the safety straps to detaching the base, we will guide you through everything you need to know in order to take Graco car seat out of base.
Unhook the base
If you have a Graco car seat that is not attached to the base, it’s time to unhook your car seat! There are a few different ways to do this, and it will depend on the car seat model. Here are some instructions for unhooking the Graco My Preferred Click Connect 40+ convertsible car seat:
1) Remove the infant insert by unfolding it and removing the clips that secure it.
2) Slide the shoulder straps off of the post that they’re secured to.
3) Rotate the front-to-back harness buckle around so that it’s facing away from you and unlatch it from the child restraint system.
4) Lift up on both sides of the belt clip until it pops out of its mounting bracket.
5) Carefully remove the belt clip from both side of the child restraint system. Be sure not to lose any parts! You can store these in a safe place, like your child’s nursery.
6) Pull up on one side of fabric at bottom of car seat until it comes loose, then pull up on other side until fabric becomes loose too (click here for video demonstration).
7) Carefully unclip shoulder straps from fabric loops at each end (they may still be connected by a short cord). Try not to pull on shoulder straps too much as they may become tangled. If they get tangled, gently tug on them until they detachment from each other. Now you can
Lift out the car seat
To take Graco car seat out of base, first remove the safety belt by unhooking it from the car. Next, unclip the shoulder straps and lift out the car seat. Finally, remove the base from the car.
Remove the straps
If you have a Graco travel system, there are two straps that go over the shoulder and across the chest to secure the seat in place. It can be a bit of a challenge to remove these straps, especially if your child is not cooperative. Here are three methods for removing the straps from the base:
1) Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the screws that hold the strap in place. Once they are loose, gently pull on each strap until it comes free from the base.
2) If using an adjustable wrench isn’t feasible or if your child is too resistant to being separated from his seat, use pliers to grasp one end of each strap and firmly pull them away from the base.
3) If using pliers isn’t feasible or your child is still resisting separation, try breaking one of the plastic clips that hold each strap together. This will make it easier to remove each strap without having to struggle with it.
Put the car seat back on the base
Removing a Graco car seat from the base can be a bit of a hassle, but it’s definitely possible. Here are four tips to help make the process go more smoothly:
1. Locate the release buttons. There are usually two small buttons on either side of the car seat base, just below the handle. Push them in simultaneously to release the car seat from its base.
2. Get a grip. One hand should be placed on top of the car seat to support it as you remove it from the base; use your other hand to grasp one of the sides of the car seat and pull it away from the base.
3. Get down low. If possible, work on lowering the car seat onto your level so that you don’t have to strain your back or neck trying to lift it up off of the base.
4. Don’t force anything. If either button doesn’t release the car seat from its base, try twisting or pulling on it gently until it does – don’t bang on it or use excessive force!
