Parking Lights Stay on When Car is off

You may have noticed that when your car is off, the parking lights will stay on. This is because the car’s computer is still sensing that there may be someone in the car, and it’s guarding against theft.

However, this feature can be a bit of a pain if you’re trying to leave your car and the lights are still on. Luckily, there are ways to turn off the parking lights without having to get out of the car.

What is a parking light?

A parking light, also known as a stoplight, is a small, usually red or green light mounted on a post in front of a driveway or on the side of a street to indicate when the vehicle is stopped at a traffic signal. It also indicates when the vehicle is waiting to turn left or right.

When should a parking light turn off?

When you turn your car off, most of the electrical systems in your vehicle should turn off. This includes the parking lights. However, some vehicles have a sensor that keeps the parking lights on if the car is not moving.

How do I know if my car’s parking lights are on or off?

If your car’s parking lights are on, the engine is running and the headlights are on, then you have a battery backup system. When the car’s parking lights are off, the car’s battery is not running and the headlights are not on, then the parking lights must be turned off by your switch.
