The combustion chambers
The engine is the body of the car that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. The engine is composed of different parts: the crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, and valves.
The combustion chambers are located at the heart of the engine and are where the fuel and air mixture is burned. The heat from this combustion process melts the pistons, which then move the connecting rods back and forth. This movement powers the valves, which let air into and out of the cylinders.
The engine block
The engine block is the largest and heaviest part of a car engine. It contains all of the engine’s vital organs- the pistons, valves, and crankshaft- and is bolted to the chassis. The block usually weighs about 2,000 pounds.
The cylinder head contains the combustion chambers and fuel injectors. The head also has valves that control air/fuel mixture and water injection. Behind the head are the camshafts, which drive the valves open and close.
The block also contains lubrication systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, and emissions control devices.
