When To Replace Ignition Coil Eric The Car Guy

If you’ve ever had to replace your ignition coil, you know it’s not the most pleasant experience. In fact, it can be a pretty frustrating process if you don’t know what to look for. In this blog post, we will walk you through the different signs that indicate it’s time to replace your ignition coil and how to do so without any trouble. From there, you’ll be able to keep your car running like new and avoid any unpleasant surprises down the road.

Symptoms of a Bad Ignition Coil

Symptoms of a bad ignition coil can include an inability to start the engine, poor acceleration, and trouble starting the car in cold weather. In some cases, the car may just not start at all. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is best to have your ignition coil replaced.

How to Test an Ignition Coil

If your car won’t start, there’s a good chance it needs an ignition coil. In most cases, simply replacing the coil will get your car running again. Here’s how to test an ignition coil: 1. Remove the spark plugs from the engine. 2. Park the car so the battery is off and the headlights are off. 3. Disconnect one side of the negative battery cable. 4. Connect one side of a multimeter to each spark plug wire lead and touch probes to each electrode on the coil (blue wire). 5. Turn on theMultimeter to AC volts and check for voltage at each spark plug lead against reading on meter screen (usually around 12-14 volts). 6. If one or more sparks are missing or weak, then you need to replace that coil pack! 7. Replace all spark plugs and reattach battery cable as necessary when done testing
